My name is Riana Shahid and I’m a first-generation college student from Dhaka, Bangladesh. I’ve lived in New York City my entire life so attending New York University was a welcome step in my academic career. After a period of complete indecisive-ness, followed by a lot of hopeful switching, I settled on studying Mathematics at NYU’s College of Arts and Science. My goal for the future is to become a high school math teacher but I am also interested in marketing.
Right now, I am teaching an after-school knitting/crocheting class at the Shuang Wen School through Apex for Youth while running two Etsy shops. Crepundia, Latin for “plaything”, is where I sell handmade, crocheted items (mostly toys). RianasCustomArt is my newer shop. As the name suggests, I sell custom artwork, using shoes and tote bags as my canvas. I’ve also started experimenting with embroidery (and to be honest, it’s doing better in my shop than my other art!). As the single person responsible for every aspect of these two small businesses, I have learned a lot; from logo design to customer service to everything else in between.
In my spare time, I like to do arts and crafts. My favorite mediums are acrylic and oil paints but lately, I’ve been spending more time playing with yarn. My mom taught me how to knit when I was 10 and since then, I’ve taught myself how to crochet and make really cool, more dimensional crafts. I also like to watch movies, listen to interesting podcasts (send me your suggestions!), and connect with people from all over the world.
I started this website as a summer project to learn more about WordPress and website design in general but now, it has become a place for potential employers, friends, and internet stalkers to keep up with my professional timeline, Etsy shop info, and random thoughts and photos all in one place.
